Obituary for Hattie Lundy
Hattie Virginia Lundy of E. Beal St. Highland Springs, slipped into eternal rest on Saturday May 16, 2015 at her home. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late Deacon Thomas and Deaconess Queen Lundy. Hattie was born December 16, 1932, in McKenney, Va. Her early school education took place in Dinwiddie County, Virginia and she graduated from the Dinwiddie Training School in 1951. She received Jesus Christ and was baptized at a very early age at First Baptist Church in McKenney, Virginia. Hattie moved to Richmond Virginia in the early 1950s to pursue work. She worked for a family in Windsor Farms as a nurse maid from June, 1952 to July, 1961. Her employment took her to Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, North and South Carolina. After the children became older she worked at the Westport Convalescent Center, Strafford Hall Nursing Home, The University of Richmond and Senior Connections for several years. She became a member of Second Baptist Church at Idelwood and Randolph Street's in the early 1950s and sang with that gospel chorus for several years. She later joined Shiloh Baptist Church and sang with the Senior Choir there. She was consecrated to the Deaconess Ministry on August 24, 2003. She later joined New Beginning Bible Church April 28, 2008 where she served as deaconess and sang with the choir. Hattie had a heart for God and family she enjoyed singing, eating vanilla ice cream and especially cooking large meals. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Winfield Ricks Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, two devoted daughters Wincey Ruffin (Michael) and Sylvia Lundy; one sister, Queen Rankin (Rev Rankin); two brothers, Rev. John E. Lundy (Dorothy), Dr. Washington Lundy (Dorothy) all of New York; five grandchildren Floyd, Jerrell, Chrishell, Cherelle and Terry; three great- grandchildren Jaelin, Maleah and Madison and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces great nephews, cousins and one devoted god- daughter Juanita Belcher. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 23, 2015 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church, 20318 Depot Rd, Mckenney, VA. Rev Andrew J. Hughes will deliver the eulogy. Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2PM to 8PM and Friday from 10AM to 8PM. Funeral services entrusted to the W. L. Fields Funeral Home, 10814 Doyle Blvd., Mckenney.
