Obituary for Edna Mae Ellington
Early Sunday morning on June 19, 2016, God called Mrs.Edna Mae Ellington home to rest after a brief illness. Edna was affectionately known to her family as “Big Chief”. She was born August 18, 1936 to the late Nellie Ann and Theodore Davis in Dinwiddie County. She attended Dinwiddie County Schools and was baptized at an early age at Shiloh Baptist Church. Edna moved to New York at the age of 17 and joined New Hope Baptist Church. She loved to fellowship, sing in the choir and cook for her church family.
Edna worked in housekeeping for a number of years. She stayed in New York for nearly 60 years and recently moved back home to be closer to her family. Edna was a sharp elegant dresser with a warm beautiful smile.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Ellington ; son, Walter Sellars Sr. ; siblings, Gordon Davis, Mary Louise Paige, Franklin Davis, Thomas Davis, Lois Brown, Dorothy Davis and Wilbert Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories four loving daughters, Barbara Morgan Freeman (Darnell) of Stony Creek Virginia, Connie Dagner( Sherman) of Petersburg Virginia, Sheila Malone(Archer) of Richmond Virginia, Wendy Malone( Raymond) of Petersburg Virginia; one sister, Alice Johnson of Dinwiddie Virginia; one brother, Emmitt Davis (Queen) of Petersburg Virginia; 14 grandchildren , 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends, two devoted friends Oscar and Annie Melton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 at 1PM at Shiloh Baptist Church Dinwiddie. The pastor Rev. David L. Banks Sr. will officiate and Rev. Bernard Page will deliver the eulogy.
