Obituary for Deacon Jimmie D. Smith
Deacon Jimmie David Smith ”Poe Pardner”, son of the late Jimmie David Smith and Pearine Wilson Smith Johnson, was born August 21, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, Va. One of 13 children he was preceded in death by Thomas, Roann, Ethel, James, Charlie, Robert, Fannie, Jessie, Louise and John. A Foster Son Leonard J. McWillie(Lennie). At an early age he attended Mecklenburg County Training School where he received his foundation for adulthood. His mother’s marriage to James Johnson(Pa Jimmy) brought him to the McKenney area and it was here that he learned the trade of Drywall Construction with his brother and neighborhood friends. As years went by, he joined Curtis Drywall and he remained afilliated with them into his retirement. However he did not stop his work he continued to do drywall contracting in Mckenney for friends and neighbors; and later after his move to Blackstone, Va. for others there well into his 80’s. He was 86 years old when he moved back to McKenney with his daughter and Great Grandson to began his retirement fully Jimmie was baptized early in life and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, Va. However his Rededication to the Faith led him to the Commandment Apostolic Faith Holiness Church, Blackstone, Va., where he served his Lord faithfully with his whole heart. In 1979 he was ordained into the Diaconate Ministry. Jimmie was married to the late Elnora Johnson Smith and to this union there were 7 children. Later he married Leola Watson Smith and to that union he gained two Step Sons Dwayne and Curtis Watson. Leaving memories of a life well lived to 4 daughters, Mary Alice Hawthorne(Ovan) of North Park, Florida, Frances Tucker(Wilbur) and Cassondre’ Smith of McKenney, Virginia and foster daughter Sandra L Reed of Richmond, Virginia. Sons Albert Johnson(Annette) of Stratford, Connecticut and James “Red” Johnson of McKenney, Virginia. Nine Grandchildren, Lisa, Reshad, Algie, Tristian, Wilbur Jr., Victoria, Morris Jr., Charminade and Chardonnay. Ten Great Grandchildren of those one devoted Elijah of the home and Seven Great Great Grandchildren. One Brother, Herbert H. Smith(Helen) of Vacaville, California and Robert L. Smith his nephew who was raised as his brother of McKenney. One Sister, Annie Pearl Coleman and One Sister-In-Law, Alice Smith both of Mckenney, Virginia; daughter-in-law Rev. Wanda Wallace-Tucker of Chesterfieldand a host of nieces and nephews to include four who were always there for him, Ruth Coleman, Shelia Morgan, Vanessa Pegram and Elgin Smith. Devoted friends Mr. & Mrs. Joe Evans and Mr. Tucker of Blackstone, Virginia.
