Brenda M. Prosise of Jarratt, Virginia, departed this life
on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Bon Secours Medical Center in
Petersburg, Virginia, at the age of 71. She was born on May
29, 1951, to the late Rufus and Geraldine Phillips.
At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined Rocky Mount
Baptist Church in McKenney, Virginia, where she was a
devoted member.
She attended Sussex County Primary Schools. Brenda’s most
recent employer was Perdue Farms in Emporia, Virginia,
before her health began to decline.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Harvey Prosise; devoted life partner, DeLander
Hill; son, James Phillips; sister-in-law, Tawanda Phillips; four
brothers, James, Earnest, Leon, and Gene; and two devoted
nephews, Troy and Quentin.
Brenda leaves behind: her two devoted sons, Antonio (devoted
daughter-in-law, Penica) and Gregory (Denise); sisters, Sheila
Mallory, Ethel Crowder, and two devoted, Mary (Roscoe)
and Alma ; four brothers, Ray (Pearla), Gerald, Ervin, and
Bernard; eleven grandchildren, Alexis, Cordez, Curtis,
Destini (Jeffrey), U’Nique, Gregory Jr., Imani, Jalen, Jakayla,
Quanneshia, and Shaneca; eleven great-grandchildren; three
aunts, Alice, Rosa, and Barbara; a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends, one devoted, Carolyn Hall, as well as the
Hill and Prosise families.
Throughout her life, Brenda touched many. You could always
count on her to give you a word to help you in life. She would
offer her heart and home to anyone in need. Her favorite
saying was, “What would Jesus do?” Brenda lived her life in
a way that you could see Christ in her. Although she will be
greatly missed, there is comfort in knowing that she is now
with her Heavenly Father.
