Obituary for Thelma Gholson
Ms. Thelma Otis Hobbs Gholson of 18007 Shippings Road, Dewitt, Virginia departed this life on Tuesday November 24, 2015 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. She was a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County. She was the daughter of the late Washington Hobbs and Susie Vaughan Hobbs. She accepted Christ as her lord and savior and became a member of Mt. Poole Baptist Church in Ford, VA. She later united with the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Dewitt, Va. where she was an active member before declining health hindered her full participation in the church. She served on numerous Ministries to include the Mass Choir, one of the founders of the inspirational chorus, Women’s Ministry and Food Services Ministry. In addition, she was a member of the Golden Girls and the Order of the Eastern Star Sunbeam Chapter, United order of Tent and State Grand Lodge (Good Samarian). She graduated from the Dinwiddie Training Center, Class of 1947 in Dinwiddie, Virginia. She retired from the Southside Virginia Training Center (DMH&MH) after 35 years of service as a Food Services Manager and Supervisor. Ms. Gholson was preceded in death by her loving husband Clarence R. Gholson; Parents; Sisters Mazie Johnson, Laura Street and Lillian Boothe; Brothers Herman Hobbs, Bernard Hobbs, Clyde Hobbs, and Freddie Hobbs. She leaves to cherish her memories Devoted Son, Henry Clarence Gholson (Cheryl) of Takoma Park Maryland, Devoted Daughter, Cynthia A. Brown and Devoted Son-in-Law Anthony D. Brown, Sr. of Dinwiddie, Virginia; six grandchildren, Clarence Gholson III of Columbus, Ohio, Renee Williams (Tony) of Phoenix Arizona, Anthony D. Brown, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, LaWanda Gholson of Columbus, Ohio, Nathan L. Brown (Kelley) of Albany, Georgia, and Lakeisha Woodson of Takoma Park, Maryland; ten great grandchildren Gabriella,Isabella,Tyler,Courtney,Camille,Kourtni,Ashley,Jalen,Caela and Kiara; three sisters-in-law Viola Gholson of Petersburg, Virginia, Thelma J. Hobbs of Dewitt, Virginia and Gertrude H. Jennings of Dinwiddie, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her devoted friends include Betty Seay, Katie Robinson, Edith Johnson, Emma Williams, Joan Wyatt, Lessie B. Ellis and Gertrude Miller. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Mt Calvary Baptist Church in Dewitt, Virginia. Reverend Herbert Anderson will officiate and the Reverend Gerald Q. Brandon will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ms. Gholson can be viewed at the W. L.
