On Sunday August 18, 2024 Jean Mildred Lighty Peele was called home to be with the Lord with her family by her side. Born on March 26,1944 in Richmond, VA to the Late Mathew Lighty Sr. and Mattie B. Lighty. She was preceded in death her devoted and loving Husband Clyde Peele Jr. Also preceded in death was Monica Peele (daughter), Tyree Jones (grandson), William Fordham (step son), Mathew Lighty Jr. (brother), Harold Lighty (brother), Murray Lighty (brother), Evelyn Gibson (sister).
She leaves to cherish her children Therone Lighty, Brooke Fordham Toney (David), Kenneth Peele, Clyde Peele III, and stepchildren Tonya Fordham, Anthony Cypress, Valerie Brandon, Tina Lee, Starshema Lee, Laneira Lee, and siblings Lillian Fullenwilder (Herbert), Lawrence Lighty Sr. and Patricia Lighty. Grandchildren Terone Rivers, Chiquita Thomas, Gregory Thomas III, Shatnee Thomas, Alisha Tucker, Keith and Kevin Pressley, Jarrell Peele, Talia Peele, Evander Peele, Shabria Alexander, Nashelle Goodnight, Clyde Peele IV, Casseus Cobbs, Adriana Silim. A host of great grandchildren. A devoted best friend Jackie Davis for over 60 years.
Jean graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School where Math was her favorite subject. She began working in 1963 at the EENT Hospital on 12th street for a few years and then became a Teacher at The Richmond Cerebal Palsey Center in 1966 where she taught for over 40 years and then transferred to Thomas Jefferson High School also teaching kids with Cerebal Palsy till she retired in 2009.
Jean served the Lord and gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She later joined Noble Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth VA. under direction of Pastor Henry Jones where she volunteered wherever she was needed.
Jean was known for her big spirit, infectuos laugh and kind heart. She opened her doors and kitchen to everyone. She was the heart and soul of our family, and she will be dearly missed.
