Clara Bonita Hawkins Fitzgerald,59, of Mckenney Hwy, Mckenney, VA peacefully went home to be with the Lord in eternal life on September 5, 2023 at Southside Regional Medical Center. The third child of four children she was born on August 8, 1964. Bonnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church-Dinwiddie in Darvills, VA. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Youth Choir and also a member of the Nurses Ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church.
She graduated from Dinwiddie County High School in 1982. After graduation she worked at Daltons Convience Store in Blackstone until she became employed at Central State Hospital in Petersburg in March 1990.
She worked as a Psychiatric Aide until she decided to go to school to become an LPN. Upon completion of her LPN training she continued to work at CSH. Being encouraged by her mother and co-workers she furthered her education to improve her career status. She went back to school, this time to become a registered nurse (RN). She enjoyed working with the clientele and her co-workers at CSH. She worked there for 33 years.
She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her father Lloyd R. Hawkins Sr.; her brother Lloyd R. Hawkins Jr.; 3 paternal aunts; 3 paternal uncles; 3 maternal great-aunts and 5 maternal great-uncles.
Bonnie leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband Robert Fitzgerald of Mckenney, VA; daughter Bonita Natasha Hawkins of Petersburg, VA; son Michael Morgan (Hope) of Kenbridge VA; four grandchildren Teondra Hawkins, Mikaela Wyche, Michael Morgan, Jr. and Xavier Morgan; mother Alice Loretta Atkins of Mckenney, VA; five sisters Alice H. Scott (John) of Franklinton, NC, Patricia Winfield (Anthony) of Memphis, TN, Katrina Hawkins of Mckenney, Shanika Hawkins of New York and Victoria Hawkins of Youngstown, OH; one brother Joshua Hawkins-Hill (Sophia) of Pensacola, FL; four aunts Virginia Hawkins of Mckenney, VA, Rosa Jackson, Disputanta, VA, Betty Hawkins of Maryland and Joan Williams of New York; one great-aunt Annie P. Coleman of Mckenney, VA; one great-uncle Herbert Smith of California. She also leaves a mother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and 2 brothers-in-law. Bonita has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to share her memories including Mrs. Lillie P. Coleman, Mrs. B. Spruill, Ms. Novella Peyton and Rev James Geter Sr., Barbara Jones, Laura Wilkins only to name a few.
