Bruce Lasswell passed away on March 2, 2023 in Richmond at the age of 75. He spent his final days surrounded by family. True to character, he told stories and gave advice before falling into a peaceful sleep.
Born in 1947, Bruce lived with his parents and brothers in Germany, before returning to the U.S. and graduating with Colonial Heights High School’s Class of 1965. In 1970 he graduated from the University of Virginia and he immediately began service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a First Lieutenant. In 1975 he earned an advanced degree from VCU. During his civilian career, Bruce worked as an Operations Research Analyst until retirement. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for the last 23 years, eventually receiving the Silver Beaver Award, the highest and most prestigious honor awarded to a volunteer.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their two children Sarah (and husband Andrew) and John; his first wife, Juanita, and their daughter Megan (and husband Nick); and his brother Andrew (and wife Paula). His parents and brother Patrick preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, Bruce’s family requests donations be made to St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. The visitation will be held on Monday April 3, 6pm-8pm, and the funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 4 at 10am. Both events will take place at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 7310 Squirrel Level Rd., North Dinwiddie, VA 23805.
