Obituary for Bernice W. Brown
Bernice “Yay” Brown (77) of Lew Jones Road, Rawlings, VA transitioned into eternal rest on Monday September 11, 2017 in the VCU Community Memorial Health Center in South Hill, VA. Mrs. Brown was born on February 17, 1940 in Dinwiddie, VA to the late William “Billy” Winfield and Sadie Gilliam Winfield. Mrs. Brown was educated in the Dinwiddie County Public School System. She was employed with Keller Aluminum in McKenney, VA for several years. As her health declined in her later years she became a dedicated housewife and mother.
At an early age Bernice accepted Christ and became a member of the Hickory Run Baptist church. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Brown; three brothers Charlie Winfield, Sr., Isham Winfield and Clarence Winfield; four sisters, Virginia Lewis, Julie Ann Winfield, Maxine Winfield Johnson Rhodes and Genevia Winfield Perrear.
Left to cherish her fond memories are her son Marvin G. Brown (Michelle) of Petersburg, VA, two grandchildren, Jamal and Shanell Brown of Petersburg, VA; one devoted sister, Mary F. Jackson (Andrew) of Rawlings, VA; three Sisters-in-law, Mildred Winfield of McKenney, VA, Gertrude Winfield of Dewitt, VA, Nancy Bishop of Newport News, VA; one brother-in-law, George Lee Brown (Doris) of South Bend, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; devoted nephews Herbert Lee Winfield of South Hill and Bruce Winfield of Dewitt; special family friend, Mrs. Josephine Campbell of Rawlings.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers. Special caregiver Diane Fields, Envoy Nursing Home of Lawrenceville, VA, Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia, VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill. Special thanks to the Buford and Campbell family, Tom Tyler and Michelle W. Smith. Thanks to Rev. James Jeter for his care and support of our loved one.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 16, 2017 at 11AM from the Hickory Run Baptist Church, Rawlings, VA. The pastor Rev. James Walker will officiate and Rev.
